Nenad Fabijanić’s Myth of the Change


Design dialogues #24: Martina Granić


This Thursday at Croatian Design Superstore we’ll host a conversation with another versatile and exceptionally creative author with a broad scope of work ― Martina Granić, a coreographer, dancer, visual artist and designer! A long series of Martina’s interests and activities is perhaps too extensive for an ordinary FB event, but we’ll try to present them succintly nonetheless.

Martina Granić (1979), lives and works as choreographer, dancer, dance pedagogue, designer and visual artist in Zagreb. She completed MA Faculty of Economics (Marketing Department) and MA (Master of Arts) School of Design (Visual Communications) at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb. She participated in SPAZIO European program for young dance makers (2013―2014). She received the danceWEB Scholarship in 2014 at ImPulsTanz Vienna. In the last five years her work involves rethinking dance and performance from the perspective of design. She launched several social platforms in the field of the dance and performing arts: Task, Eksbauhaus, Kiss, SPQR, Denf trough different artistic organizations. As a graphic designer she worked in the field of culture for almost all Croatian dance theaters. She is also working as a stage designer and costume designer for other artists and on her own projects.

She is currently working as a professional choreographer: (ekscena, Dance Lab Collective, Domino Association): Sunday Afternoon (2013), Jato Utile (2014), Eau De Performance (2014), Arms (collaboration with Maja Jakuš-Mejarec and Marta Banić, 2015), Botanike (collaboration with Ana Mrak, 2015), Faun (collaboration with Toni Flego, 2015), Bouquets from the Finest Graves (2016). She teaches contemporary dance technique in the Liberance dance studio. She is artist in residence at the Zagreb Dance Centre in 2014 and 2016. With the Dance performance Botanike she participated in 33rd Dance Week Festival in Zagreb. She participated in the first London Design Biennale 2016 as a member od a production team, sound designer and text editor. She is a professional freelance artist in the field of the choreography (HZSU). She is a member of Croatian Dancers Association (UPUH) and Croatian Designers Society (HDD), as well as a member of Denf collective and an artistic director of Dance Lab Collective.

With Martina we’ll talk about numerous projects she has initiated or took a part in, about working paralelly in dance and visual arts in the course of her everyday life, about the challenges freelancers are facing when working in several different fields, about the stage which means life and everything that goes hand in hand with it.

Design dialogues are coordinated and hosted by designer and writer Bojan Krištofić, a member of CDSS team. As a sales and exhibition space intended for products and concepts of domestic designers, CDSS initiates their gathering, networking and market promotion, while the audience gets a chance to meet the designers and get informed through casual and direct get-together.
